Aloha
Festivals Aloha Festivals are Hawai'i's premier cultural showcase,
a celebration of Hawai'i's music, dance and history intended to
preserve the unique Hawaiian island traditions. Aloha Festival starts in September on the island of O'ahu in Waikiki on 9/15 + 9/22/2012.

Island Hawaiian Music Festival Annual Big Island Music Festivals
take place in Hilo at EHCC (East Hawaii Community Center). EHCC
hosts many Hawaiian music festival events during the year. Follow

Kona
Coffeee Festival Visit Kailua Kona Coffee Festival November
2012. Hawaii's oldest food festival features over 30 events, kicking
off with the International Lantern Parade (6:30pm on Nov. 6th).
There will be a variety of events throughout the festival, including
art exhibits, tastings, a cupping competition, a coffee picking
competition, coffee recipe cooking contest, farm tours, sporting
events and more.
Merrie
Monarch Hula Festival The 49th Annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival
will take place in Hilo April 12 - 14, 2012. A week long festival
of cultural events including Hawaii’s most prestigious hula
competitions at Edith Kanaka’ole stadium. The stadium begins
with a Ho’olaule’a on Moku Ola (Coconut Island) on Easter
Sunday in Hilo with lots of music, food and fun. On Wednesday there
is a free hula exhibition night at the stadium that begins at 6:30pm.
Thursday is the solo Miss Aloha Hula competition, where each dancer
performs both hula kahiko (ancient hula) and hula `auana (modern
hula). Friday is the group Kahiki (ancient) and Saturday the Auana
(modern) hula competition. A grand parade takes place through Hilo

2012 PGA Mitsubishi Electric Golf
Championship at Hualalai takes place in Januar, 2012. This major
Big Island golf event is held at the Hualalai Resort Golf Club.

2012 celebrates the 15th Big Island
Marathon in Hilo starting at Hilo Bayfront on March 18, 2012. Run
along the ocean at one of the world's most scenic marathons, the

Lavaman Waikoloa takes place April
1, 2012. Not ready for the Big Island Kona Ironman, start with the
Lavaman Triathlon which features an ocean swim, off-road run and

The Big Island Merrie Monarch Hula
Festival takes place April 12 - 14/2012. A week-long festival of
cultural events including Hawaii's most prestigious hula competition
at Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium. The festival begins with a Ho'olaule'a
at the auditorium behind the Stadium on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
Hawaii Ironman 703 is another Big
Island Ironman to prepare triathlon athletes for the real Kona Ironman
in October: Hawaii Ironman 70.3 Hawaii takes place on June 2,
2012 with a 7am start at Hapuna Beach State Park. Triathlon consists
of 1.2 miles Swimming, 56 miles Biking + 13.1 miles Running.
Kona Marathon
takes place June 24, 2012 in Kona. About 1,500 marathon runners
of all ages will be competing for prize money and participating
for health and fun. Kona Marathon is raising money for charity.

The 2012 Big Island Billfishing
Tournament in Kona is one of the big international fishing tournaments.
It's one of the biggest Big Island fishing event. It is a week-long
event in Kailua-Kona August 12 - 18, 2012. The Kona International
Billfish Tournament is known as the the grandfather of all big game
fishing tournaments'.

Join Leilehua Yuen in this local's-eye-view of Hawai'i Island each
Wednesday in Hilo's historic Palace Theater. Through traditional
chant and storytelling, music, hula, and video featurettes, Leilehua

weekly as the program revolves around the Hawaiian lunar calendar,

This year, the Festival marks its annual celebration with the planting of cherry tree seedlings gifted from the Embassy of Japan. The two varieties of seedlings to be planted in Hawai'i were specially chosen for Waimea's clime by Dr. Tetsuo Koyama, a Honolulu-based botanist formerly of The New York Botanical Garden. the festival showcases the 60 year old cherry trees planted at Church Row Park and the Japanese tradition of viewing them Nhanami. This year the event remembers three Paniolo Hall of Fame members who each offered different skills to the island's ranching industry: Jamie Dowsett and Charles T. Kimura of Waimea, and Charles T. Onaka of Honaunau. The festival includes a variety of activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at venues throughout Waimea - look for pink banners identifying site locations from the Parker Ranch Historic Homes on Mamalahoa Hwy. 190 to the Hawaiian Homestead Farmer's Market on Hwy. 19. A fun all day event featuring some of the best of Hawaii's live music and hula. This family friendly fundraiser provides college scholarships for area students and supports community projects. Held at beautiful Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park each February, this year's lineup includes Mark Yamanaka, Times 5, Lorna Lim and Polinahe with Sonny Lim, Darlene Ahuna, Kanakapila, Kunoa, the Laupahoehoe High School 'Ukulele Band and the Honoka'a High School Jazz Band. "Ka'Olelo Hawai'i/The Hawai'ian Language: Revitalizing the Language Through Our Children" is part of a monthly community lecture series for 2012 that spotlights local and state speakers on a wide variety of cultural and historical subjects. The staff and students of the K-12 Hawai'ian language immersion school, Ke Kula 'o 'Ehunuikaimalino, will share ha'i olelo (talk) and mele (songs) and "continue to revitalize the Hawai'ian language through children". Also, the members of Unuehu, a branch of the larger hula community of learners of the Hawai'i Community College's Unukupukupu, will be sharing their mele (songs), oli (chants) and hula (dance). Unukupukupu is the name of the rigorous, didactic and experiential hula curricula of Dr. Taupouri Tangaro. Presented by Kona Historical Society, in cooperation with the County of Hawai'i, this lecture series is a gift from the Society to the community that has supported it for so long. Free of charge, it is open to all, residents and visitors alike.
