Moving to Sequim on the
Olympic Peninsula
You consider retirement but your financial means
don't allow you to retire in Hawaii or California, then you might
want to have a closer look at sunny Sequim on the Olympic Peninsula
in the Pacific Nortwest. This Sequim Town blog tells you all about
Moving
to Sequim, vacation in Sequim, Life in Sequim, Sequim Real Estate
and more.
Retire in Sequim, Olympic Peninsula,
WA
Sequim is a very special place, a place unlike
any other in the world. Sequim (pronounced Skwim) lies in the Dungeness
Valley, nestled between the majestic Olympic Mountains and the serene
waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Highway 101 runs south of
town with three exits into Sequim. This makes the city the gateway
to the attractions of the North Olympic Peninsula. Sequim enjoys
mild weather, truly spectacular scenery, and the bounty of land
and sea. Read more about this special place called Sequim.
Best of all, homes and real estate can still be acquired at an affordable
price, even though Sequim has seen a steady, strong growth in real
estate market value over the last few years. If you liked what you
read about Sequim and the Olympic Peninsula, one of these Sequim
for Sale houses might be the perfect home for your retirement in
Sequim.
Life in sunny Sequim or why Sequimers
love Sequim
So what is so special about Sequim? First of all,
Sequim is the exception to the rule regards the rainy weather pattern
in the Pacific Nortwest like Seattle where there is hardly any day
without rain. Well, Sequim is located in the rain shadow of the
Cascade and Olympic Mountains, which guarantees the famous 'blue
hole' with the sun coming up some time on most days of the year
and an average annual low precipitation of 12". It is said
that each mile one drives from Sequim East to Port Townsend or West
to Port Angeles, the rain pattern increases by one inch. So enjoy
mild winters (hardly any snow) and moderate summers without the
extreme heat, which hit most of the states recently due to global
warming.
Secondly, living in Sequim and area is country
living at its best (see above photo taken standing on Bell Hill)
with all the advantages of a big city. Would you believe that this
small town of about 7,500 residents offers all the convenient big
stores like Costco, Wal Mart, Home Depot, JC Pennies which we got
so much used to and would not want to miss in our retirement?! Two
'regular' markets like Safeway and QFC complete the picture. And
if you are into organic food and eating lots of fruits and vegetables,
the 'Sunny Farms' Store is the magic word.
Since we are talking fruits, let's not forget
to mention that this is 'berry' country. Black berries grow everywhere
at an abundance you have never seen before. There are also the berry
farms where you can buy strawberries, blueberries, raspberries,
loganberries etc. at very affordable prices compared to supermarket
prices but most of them offers the 'u-pick' option, which is really
fun. You pick the fruits you want (get plenty of taste doing so!),
get them fresh from the bushes on your dinner table and pay a minimum
amount for your fruits. How better can it get!
Last but not least, Olympic
National Park is just around the corner from Sequim. One actually
enjoys the beautiful views of snow-covered mountains on the horizon
on a daily basis. The beauty of the Olympic Mountains and the Pacific
Northwest attract thousands of visitors each year for enjoying the
great outdoors. Hiking, Backpacking, Mountain Biking, Fishing, RV-ing
are just some of the great activities one can pursue when living
in Sequim. Here are a few area photos of the magnificent Olympic
Peninsula"

Finally, Sequim loves to celebrate! The Sequim
Irrigation Festival has a history of over 100 hundred years.
Partcipants of the parade come from all over the area, as far as
from Seattle, show great pride, joy and commitment. The vistors
from near and far thank them with their applause and cheers. What
a happy parade in small town Sequim! Great way to start Spring in
May. The Sequim Lavender
Festival is one of the biggest attractions in July each year.
Thousands of visitors roam the lavender farms, enjoying fields of
fragrant, beautiful purple lavender blossoms and their lavender
products. More than 30,000 visitors from all over the world celebrate
the essence of lavender in Sequim, the capital of lavender.
When retiring you want to stay in your best shape
ever. Finally, for the first time in your life you have the time
to do so. Apart from all the great outdoor activities, Sequim residents
and visitors can take advantage of one unique place which shapes
the character of this town...the Sequim
Aquatic Center in the heart of Sequim. Full size Olympic pool,
shallow pool, sauna, hydro therapy pool, and a wild wonderful water
slide! All the latest equipment of treadmills, cross trainers, bikes
and many more fantastic machines in a friendly environment! SARC
also has a gym for basketball, volleyball, aerobics and karate classes,
as well as two racquetball courts which may be reserved on a first
come first served basis. Yoga, Tai Tchi, and Stretching are among
many classes offered at very affordable rates. Get in the best shape
of your life when retiring in Sequim!
